Software Engineers (Python/C/C++)

For over 17 years, we have been designing and building production software for scientific and mission-critical systems for Defense and Space-related applications. Our portfolio of projects involving both traditional and more experimental user interfaces is rapidly expanding and our team is therefore looking for:

Software Engineers (Python/C/C++)

At S[&]T, software engineers are involved in every type of project and usually people are involved in multiple projects at the same time. We work for technically skilled clients in space (such as ESA, SRON, ECMWF and similar) as well as the defense industry. They expect our team to provide robust, reliable production software that is used in mission-critical systems or by large international teams of users.

You’ll work with MSc- and PhD-level colleagues on various applied scientific topics. Interest in and affinity with math, physics and aerospace engineering will be a great help, but software engineering is the foundation.

Why you would fit with our team:

You are a Software Engineer with relevant professional experience or a relevant MSc, e.g. in Computational Engineering or Informatics. You are looking for serious challenges in your projects, e.g. related to performance, system of systems complexity, interoperability, automation or scaling. In summary, you’re a professional and creative problem solver. You want to build re-usable components and products and ‘co-own’ them during their life-cycle within our company.

To some extent, you have a track record with regards to several of the following topics:

§Architectural design

§Python, C, C++ (back-end)

§Javascript, QT, Web (front-end)

§Defensive programming and error handling

§Concepts like functional programming

§Automated Testing

§Unix shell scripting

§Deployment and orchestration

§User and Installation Documentation

Your personal ambition is to become an expert in software engineering for complex systems (and systems of systems) and you are looking for opportunities to learn and grow. You like to work in multidisciplinary, international and diverse teams. You have strong communication skills (for teamwork) and feel comfortable in an English-speaking work environment. You are team-motivated. You enjoy our high-paced, action-driven space & defense environment where every day is about solving the next hard puzzle.

This is an excellent role for an experienced person or highly talented starter, as long as you want to be in an environment where you define your own tasks – together instead of top-down.

Some of the background info about our current environment that might interest you:

-      Your colleagues are software engineers who develop mostly for scientific applications in Linux (server) environments with a growing trend towards web application development.

-      Software Engineering projects use technology such as Jenkins, Redmine, Git, SVN etc. Current web applications are often based on Django. However, technologies are always in flux.

-      We self-host, use and produce FOSS where possible.

-      Our 50 colleagues work at MSc+/PhD-level in our offices in Delft (NL), Drachten (NL) and Oslo (NO).
