Embedded Software Engineer

Main responsibilities 

You will join the software development team within the High Tech Industry unit in Delft, contributing your expertise to various areas, including optomechatronics, quantum technology, space systems engineering, semiconductor equipment, and optics.

Your role involves:

  • Working independently on projects as a software expert, collaborating with disciplines like control, electronics, optics, and mechanics.
  • Developing “software for hardware” for projects in fields such as quantum computing, laser satellite communication, and semiconductor equipment.
  • Acting as the software authority within project teams, balancing design decisions across disciplines.
  • Depending on your experience, leading other software developers in projects.

Requirements

We are looking for a pragmatic, flexible, and hands-on professional who thrives in a multidisciplinary project environment.

To succeed in this role, you bring:

  • A university degree in a technical field, preferably in physics or electronics
  • At least 5 years of full-time experience in software development for high-tech systems, including requirements specification, architecture design, implementation, integration, and testing
  • Expertise in Python, C, and C++, with experience in object-oriented programming, multi-threaded programs, real-time constraints, device drivers, and GUIs
  • Practical knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and standard laboratory equipment (experience with embedded platforms combining processor cores and FPGA is a plus)
  • The ability to quickly acquire knowledge of specialized software topics and project-specific domain expertise
