We are currently looking for an Experienced LCA Scientist to join the team in Utrecht.
As a Life Cycle Assessment Scientist, you will participate in the research into circularity and sustainability impacts of highly relevant technologies and economic sectors: novel chemicals & materials including fuels and plastics, electronics & consumer goods, renewable energy and battery storage systems, building & infrastructure and waste management. Your department will guide value chain actors – including technology developers, industry, policymakers, and consumers – in the transition toward a more sustainable circular economy.

Main responsibilities
The value chains are modeled and assessed across all dimensions of sustainability and resource criticality using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Life Cycle Costing (LCC), Technoeconomic analysis (TEA), Social LCA, and Socially/Environmentally Extended Economic Input/Output (EIO). You will have the chance to work closely with our multidisciplinary team to implement and further develop these methods and contribute to research proposals for research programs.
Requirements
- You have at least an MSc, but preferably a PhD, in Engineering, Industrial Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Materials Sciences, or related scientific fields
- You have a demonstrable publication record in reputable peer-reviewed journals
- You have at least 4 years of experience (in addition to your PhD)
- You have experience performing LCA studies using software like SimaPro, OpenLCA, and Brightway
- You have experience with coding in Python
- You have an affinity for large data sets, modeling, and visualization of data
- You have the ability to assess sustainability systematically and methodically
- You are eager to contribute to solving societally relevant sustainability problems
- You have a good knowledge of at least one of the relevant technologies and economic sectors
- You can mentor more junior researchers and cooperate with a wider research team
- You have good communication, reporting, and presentation skills
- You are proficient in English
- An understanding of chemical engineering and process engineering principles is a plus
- Speaking fluent Dutch is strongly preferred
- Experience with Machine Learning is a plus
- Experience managing other researchers is an advantage
