We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join the team in Leiden.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in a team primarily focused on the development of new Solar Array designs for space missions. You will work closely with Lead and Systems Engineers, the specialized mechanical and thermal engineering team, the Materials & Processes department, and the skilled Assembly & Integration Team.
Please note that this position is intended to be for six months, and the extension after that cannot be guaranteed.

Main responsibilities
- Conduct FEM analysis to verify that the Solar Array wings can withstand the necessary mechanical stresses, both in folded and extended positions
- Prepare detailed documentation of analysis results
- Participate in and/or provide technical support during design reviews
- You will make sure that the final design allows successful integration of each design element with the product as a whole
- Recommend workflow improvements as needed
Requirements
For this role, it's necessary that you have:
- A Master’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace) with a strong foundation in FEA, ideally using NASTRAN and FEMAP software
- At least 2 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, preferably within the space industry.
- Proficient knowledge of traditional and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis techniques, as well as key mechanical and thermal design principles specific to space products
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced setting, both independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides)
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Fluent in English
And it is an advantage if you have:
- Minimum of 2 years experience using CATIA V5 within the past 5 years
- Strong knowledge of ABAQUS software for mechanical structural analysis
- Proficiency in using ADAMS software for multibody dynamics analysis
- Experience in performing FEM acoustic analysis, preferably using Actran software
- Basic conversational skills in Dutch are an advantage
