We are currently looking for a Photonics Researcher to join the team in Enschede.

As a Photonics Researcher, you are responsible for developing, optimizing and managing the fabrication and integration processes used to create photonic integrated circuits based on low-loss optical waveguides, and ultra-low-loss modulators. The main focus is to ensure that these processes are efficient and cost-effective and produce high-quality products. By working with these processes you will have the opportunity to work on applications that relate to data security, road safety, energy-efficiency data handling, and health monitoring, among other impactful fields.

Photonics Researcher 

Main responsibilities 

  • Execute second-order nonlinear processes on a chip, with low-loss and high-quality resonators, and demonstrate advantages in various applications
  • Experiment with various approaches to deposit and integrate aluminium nitride (AlN) with low-loss silicon nitride waveguides
  • Explore AlN’s inherent linear electro-optic (Pockels) effect to demonstrate high-speed electro-optical modulation with very low energy consumption
  • Contribute to the roadmap development for the photonics integration 
  • Cooperate with diverse specialists in several projects, sharing your expertise and experience in different disciplines 


Requirements

  • A PhD degree in Applied Physics, Nanoscience, or other related disciplines 
  • At least 4 years of experience working with thin-film deposition and photolithography patterning
  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment and with technology development 
  • Strong affinity with thin-film technology. Knowledge of photonics and semiconductor technology is a plus
  • Capacity to cooperate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to take responsibility for your tasks and organize your work accordingly 
  • Fluency, both written and spoken, in English
