We are currently looking for a Researcher Safety Assessment AD vehicles to join the team in the Eindhoven Area.
The rapid growth in mobility demands intersects with significant societal and environmental challenges. Within the Mobility and Built Environment (MBE) unit, the Integrated Vehicle Safety (IVS) department addresses large-scale challenges in transport, infrastructure, and housing. IVS focuses on developing technology and assessment methodologies to support the deployment of Connected and Cooperative Automated Mobility (CCAM) systems aimed at achieving 'zero calamities,' 'zero emissions,' and 'zero loss.' By collaborating with industrial partners and policymakers, IVS contributes to innovation processes for smart vehicles and complex CCAM systems to advance mobility and logistics.
To create a safer, more sustainable, and efficient mobility system, IVS applies comprehensive knowledge in vehicle automation and advanced safety assessment methodologies. This role emphasizes safety assessment for both assisted and automated vehicles, addressing vehicles on public roads and in confined areas to maintain predefined safety levels. Responsibilities include identifying and evaluating various risks, designing and executing tests, and analyzing test and monitoring results.
This position is part of one of nine expert groups within MBE, working in a collaborative, international team of experts from diverse fields and supporting projects for both industry and public stakeholders at national and international levels.

Main responsibilities
We are looking for a researcher with several years of experience to study and assess the safety of assisted and automated vehicles. This role will focus on several key areas:
- Safety Case: Identifying and evaluating hazards and risks in assisted and automated driving, including conducting assessments like HARA, FTA, FMEA, and STPA, to ensure safety by design
- Safety Testing: Designing and carrying out tests that meet regulatory standards, Euro NCAP criteria, and specific manufacturer requirements.
- Safety Assessment: Analyzing test data and in-service monitoring results to evaluate real-world safety
- Safety Assurance: Supporting the full safety assurance
process for these vehicles, covering design, assessment, and operational
safety of assisted and automated systems
Requirements
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
- A master’s degree or equivalent experience in mechanical or electronics engineering, data science, applied mathematics, or a related field relevant to safety assessment
- Several years of experience in safety assessments, ideally within an automotive context or similar fields (e.g., rail, aviation). Experience with safety cases and/or HARA is preferred
- A strong commitment to staying current in the field, with an eagerness to engage with the latest research and literature
- Clear communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and convey complex ideas
- Strong writing and presentation skills in English, allowing for paper authorship and conference presentations. Proficiency in Dutch is preferred, along with a willingness to learn it in the short term
- An ability to work well in a team environment, collaborating closely with both internal and external partners
