About this job
We are currently looking for a Systems Engineer to join the team in the Leiden Area.
As a System Engineer, you will support the design, integration, and validation of high-performance systems for the space industry. The role focuses on projects involving spacecraft testing, satellite simulation systems, and advanced satellite communications, including laser communication technologies. The position is part of a multidisciplinary engineering team engaged in end-to-end system development, from requirement analysis through delivery and operational support.

Main responsibilities
- Analyse customer requirement specifications (CRS) and Statements of Work
- Perform system decomposition and design across hardware, software, and COTS components
- Contribute to project planning, cost assessments, resource estimation, and risk evaluation
- Lead and coordinate internal and external technical discussions and reviews
- Develop and maintain comprehensive system design documentation, including test plans
- Support milestone reviews such as PDR, CDR, and TRR with stakeholders and clients
- Oversee or execute system configuration and integration activities
- Define and coordinate system-level test procedures and validation strategies
- Provide input for procurement of system components
- Report progress and key updates to the Project Manager
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Optical Engineering or Electronics
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a system engineering role
- Strong teamwork, proactive attitude, and hands-on approach
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, especially in multidisciplinary environments
- Familiarity with SDA, CCSDS, and ECSS standards is considered a plus
- Experience with laboratory test equipment is advantageous
- Understanding of modulation and coding techniques is a plus
- Background or familiarity with the aerospace industry is an asset
