We are currently looking for a Design Engineer to join the team in Leiden.

We're in search of a skilled Design Engineer to contribute to cutting-edge aerospace projects and be part of a dynamic team focused on advancing space exploration and technology.

In this role, you'll be instrumental in designing complex aerospace structures, particularly for next-generation European launch systems. Using CAD software, you'll develop precise 3D models and production specifications, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal performance and safety standards, as well as upholding all customer requirements. You will be working closely with Lead and System Engineers, as well as experts in mechanical and thermal engineering, in order to ensure results of upmost quality.

Design Engineer

Main responsibilities 

    • Engage in CAD design of space products, particularly those associated with the complex structures of European launchers, covering the entire spectrum from initial concept to final production specifications.
    • Create CATIA CAD 3D models utilizing CATIA V5 and develop product definitions essential for the manufacturing of parts/assemblies, ensuring model-based annotations for clarity.
    • Design components and assemblies for structures, focusing on optimization in terms of weight, cost, performance, and meeting production/assembly requirements while prioritizing product safety, utilizing appropriate design tools.
    • Collaborate with the Mechanical and Thermal engineering teams, as well as other relevant departments, to identify and implement optimal design solutions.
    • Participate in and provide technical support during design reviews to ensure comprehensive evaluation and refinement of design concepts.
    • Collaborate closely with the Materials & Processes Engineering Team to select suitable materials and processes for each design element.
    • Ensure seamless integration of individual design elements into the overall product architecture to facilitate efficient assembly and functionality.
    • Potentially contribute to the definition and development of drawings required for Interface Control Documents, working closely with Senior Design Engineers, Lead Engineers, Systems Engineers, and external stakeholders as necessary.
    • Embrace broad objectives with agreed-upon deadlines, establishing clear tasks and methodologies for their completion.

Requirements

    • Have obtained a Master's Degree in Engineering, focusing on mechanical or aerospace engineering
    • Bring at least 5 years of experience as a design engineer, ideally within the aerospace industry
    • Showcase adeptness in CAD software, particularly CATIA V5, with a minimum of 5 years of recent usage
    • Thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced setting, adept at working independently or collaboratively within a team
    • Possess familiarity with classical and numerical stress analysis techniques, with a background in mechanical and thermal engineering being a bonus
    • Demonstrate robust problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail
    • Communicate proficiently in English, both verbally and in writing
    • Proficiency in Dutch is advantageous but not obligatory
